 Crocodile Causes Scare At Kwara Council Secretariat
The appearance of a crocodile in an office at the Baruten Local Government Council Secretariat at Kosubosu in Kwara on Friday caused pandemonium, forcing workers to scamper for their safety.
When a correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria visited the secretariat, workers were seen in groups discussing the incident. Some workers said that the reptile was sighted behind a door by a worker, Haruna Hussein.

According to one of the workers, Hasheem Tijani, the movement of the reptile behind the door of one of the offices attracted the attention of Hussein, who raised an alarm on sighting it. Tijani said that workers in their offices ran out when the alarm was raised but some brave men later went back to the office with stones, sticks and cutlasses to kill the reptile.

Crime: Teenage driver crushes toddler in Lagos
When three-year-old Ikeoluwa Olaniyi was playing with her friends in her grandfather’s compound in Ire Akari Estate, Isolo, Lagos, on September 3, 2013, little did she know that death was lurking.
PUNCH Metro learnt that a teenage motorist, Chinyere Wagbaranta, in company with her brother, Chisom, and a police corporal attached to Police Mobile Force 22, Felix Adebayo, in a Mercedes Benz Sports Utility Vehicle, drove into the compound carelessly, hitting the little girl and crushing her skull.

The victim’s grandfather, Adesola Elegbede, who spoke to our correspondent while fighting back tears, said Ikeoluwa was his first grandchild. He said, “Ikeoluwa lives with me and my wife. Her father works in a bank and her mother works with an accounting firm, which are both located on Victoria Island. Ikeoluwa attends a school in Ilasa, which is not far from our house. She stays with her parents during the weekend.

Tragedy struck in far away Turkey on Wednesday as a Bishop of the Anglican Church and  Christian pilgrim from Niger State, Bishop Peter Olukayode, died while on transit to Israel for this year’s Christian pilgrimage to the Holy land. News of the incident emerged yesterday as the spokesman of the Niger State  Committee on 2013 Christian Pilgrimage, Mr. Ilya Garba, informed journalists  in an interview in Minna,  that the late bishop  was a leading motivator for the pilgrims, hours to  their departure.

A policeman in uniform yesterday in Abuja shot a man in the leg after an argument on who should pay for a bottle of beer. In what has emerged like a replay of the Police Equipment Fund scandal, a crisis is at present brewing within the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) over the compulsory one-off deduction of N500 from the allowances of corps members to fund a scheme that is ostensibly a private concern, but registered as NYSC Foundation. The foundation is believed to have benefitted from corps members’ contributions running into millions of naira. NYSC mobilises at least 300,000 young graduates of tertiary institutions annually.
THISDAY investigation revealed that the scam all began in 2007 with the approval of the then management of NYSC.

OnitshaTraders and small scale industrialists lost goods and properties worth millions of naira yesterday in Onitsha following an early morning fire that gutted the polythene dealers market, Nwaizu Estate, Awada. Three businessmen, who could not withstand the enormity of their losses allegedly attempted suicide by jumping into the raging fire but hey were later rescued by fellow traders. When Daily Sun reporter visited the market yesterday morning, billows of smoke covered everywhere, while parts of the market were still on fire even as the traders watched helplessly as nothing was recovered from the inferno.

Teenager Jailed For Selling Fufu-stuffed Nokia Phone
A 19-year- old street trader, Emeka Chukwumuata, was on Friday sentenced to two months imprisonment by the Special Offences Court, Alausa, Ikeja, for selling a Fufu-Stuffed (cassava-stuffed) Nokia phone.
“I am usually lenient to young people but you have to go in for inflicting pain on people,’’ the Magistrate, Mrs O. Kushanu said.
