2013 Armed Forces Remembrance Day

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day has a rich history in Nigeria. Originally celebrated on the 11th of November to coincide with the Armistice Remembrance Day for World War II veterans in the British Commonwealth of Nations, the date was later changed to the 15th of January in commemoration of the surrender of Biafra to the Federal troops in 1970 thus signaling the end of the Nigerian Civil War. Delta State, this year marked the auspicious occasion with a Remembrance Day Parade at the Cenotaph in Asaba. In attendance were the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan; Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama; Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei and other prominent government functionaries. more pictures after the cut
