The elderly man, Kyele Kilumba Masila, appeared before court on Tuesday, charged with incest.
The prosecution told the court that on March 28, 2012, Masila defiled his granddaughter and on the following day, March 29 he indecently assaulted her by inserting his fingers in her private parts.
Two witnesses testified against the suspect. One was the victim’s mother and the second a doctor who examined the 6 month-old baby.
According to the second witness, Peter Mutua, a doctor at the Mukuyuni Health Centre, upon examining the child on March 30, the minor felt pain on touching her legs and there were bruises on her private parts.
The accused denied the charges. Yator however, was not satisfied with the defense noting that the prosecution evidence was weighty. He sentenced him to life imprisonment.
