CRIME: Confusion as Robbers Kill Seven in Oyo State
Seven residents of Iseyin in Oyo State were reportedly killed on Saturday with the news spreading across the town on Monday and Tuesday.

The seven persons were reportedly killed along Iseyin/ Maya road on Saturday when they ran into a gang of armed robbers, who opened fire on them.

According to sources, the victims, who were traveling in a mini-bus, were returning to Lagos after attending functions in the town. However, they ran into the robbers’ ambush at Maya Junction.

The driver of the bus unknowingly hit one of the robbers while trying to escape from the gang. Infuriated by this, the robbers immediately opened fire on all of the occupants when the bus got stuck inside a gutter, killing all of them.

One of the victims is said to be a board member of a Community Bank in Iseyin, while others are also said to be residents of the town.

Following the incident, the apex socio cultural organization in the town, Iseyin Elders Council, has sent a “Save Our Souls” petition to security agencies in the state, alerting them on the security challenges on all roads leading to Iseyin and the entire Oke- Ogun area of the state.

The Secretary of the Council, Bolaji Kareem, who confirmed the incident, issued a statement, pleading for increase in the number of security operatives manning the roads. He said last weekend’s incident was just one of several recorded in the area and attributed such activities not only to armed robbers but also the Fulani herdsmen in the area.
