Fashion Forward kicks off today, and it promises to be the most fashionable way to spend your Eid break. With shows from some of the regions hottest designers, as well as talks and fashion courses run by both UAE and international style experts it's sure to be a fun and educational few days of events. Budding designers, students and buyers can visit The Garden area which will be selling products from over 50 of the regions hottest designers. Founder and CEO of Fashion Forward Bong Guerrero spoke of the event: “We are proud to launch our second season of Fashion Forward, and honoured that so many members of the fashion community will be spending part of their Eid holidays with us celebrating and supporting the finest in Middle Eastern design talent.” Here's our rundown of the designers you have to check out:
Gisella Blu, Tuesday 15 October, 6.30pm
Ezra, Tuesday 15 October, 8.30pm
The Manila-born designer has taken inspiration from the couture dresses of the 40’s and 50’s for his latest collection. The designer has travelled the world taking inspiration from different cultures and bringing them all together to create a unique collection. He specialises in draping and his intricate hand-stitched designs will make any woman feel like a princess.
Dima Ayad, Wednesday 16 October, 6pm
Dubai-based Dima Ayad is a rising international star, with her highly sought after collection even showing at London Fashion week. We expect to see girly designs; paired with grown-up Arabic influenced pieces.
Kage, Thursday 17 October, 7.30pm
Kage is already hugely popular around the world. Their cool, urban designers are great for young women. Designers Arwa Abdelhadi & Basma Abu Ghazaleh specialise in pieces that can be worn from day to night, combining that with a feminine feel. The result? Cute fun pieces that you’ll always feel glamorous in!
ESSA, Thursday 17 October, 8.30pm
Essa is the man everyone’s talking about in the UAE, Voted “Designer of the Year” thrice in a row, by Grazia, his designs bring together Asian and European influences to create unique one-of-a-kind pieces. Essa uses rare vintage materials and unique pattern-cutting techniques to create pieces that are like nothing else in the region. We expect to see lots of colour and vintage inspired designs at his Fashion Forward show.
Zayan The Label, Friday 18 9.30pm
Zayan Ghandour was the co-founder of our fave store S*uce Boutique, and now she’s taking over the design world too! Her ready-to-wear collection line features exclusive hand-embroidered prints, innovative cuts and billowing silhouettes. Its girly feel is already a huge success and is now stocked in 14 stores worldwide.
