Man arrested for kidnapping his own wife
The man, 21-years-old, is accused of kidnapping his teen wife from her Maplewood, New Jersey home and taking her to Brooklyn, New York, where she was rescued by members of the New York City Police Department, authorities told news reporters.
The 17-year-old girl, was married to the man, Abu Mamun, in a religious Indian ceremony, a union not recognized by the law of New Jersey, Maplewood police Sgt. Christopher Black told news reporters.

The spokesperson did not name the victim or describe what kind of relationship the couple had before the alleged abduction, but said it was anything but friendly.

It was then that Mamum came to Maplewood to retrieve his wife, police said. He took the girl without notifying her father, Black said. Around midnight the girl called in a panic. She told her father, “she had been assaulted on her way to New York City in a taxi and needed help,” Black said.

Her father then called for help. Maplewood police Lt. Michael Marucci and Detective Ray Rosania interviewed family members and transmitted the information to the NYPD.

In the end, the NYPD was able to find the girl in her former residence in Brooklyn, New York. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Officers arrested the husband and his brother Ismael Maman. Both were charged in New York with the assault of the 17-year-old and aggravated assault on an unnamed third party who was also at the home in Brooklyn, Black said.

In New Jersey, the two face charges of kidnapping, assault and aggravated assault. Nazmul Hossain, a taxi driver, 26-years-old, who transported the girl to New York form Maplewood, also was charged with kidnapping, Black said.
