Ex- Bayelsa Commissioner's Son Released, As Kidnappers Walk Away with Multi-Million Naira Ransom
Okali, the six-year-old son of a former Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development in Bayelsa State, Mr. Godknows Powell, was released after his abductors had collected N3.5million from his family.
The kidnappers had initially demanded N50million from ex- Commissioner’s family, but soon reduced it to N5million.

The father had insisted that he could only afford N2million, but according to a security source the sides agreed for N3.5million after prolonged haggling.

The boy regained freedom at an undisclosed location in Owerri, Imo State, in the afternoon of January 9, 2014, Thursday.

“The parents raced down to the place to pick him. We believe that he is in good health,” the source, who spoke to the newsmen on conditions of anonymity, said.

Okali was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on January 1, at about 12.45 a.m.

The victim was abducted while returning from a crossover church service at Etegwe, a suburb of Yenagoa, the state capital.

He was said to be in the company of his mother when the hoodlums accosted them, isolated and whisked him away to an unknown place.
